Wolftrak Farm, owned and operated by Judy and Steve Ritchie, is located in Thorndale, Texas, just east of Austin.

Visitors are always welcome, by appointment please.

Wolftrak Farm is dedicated to breeding quality Trakehner horses with an emphasis placed on correct conformation, athletic movement, sound minds, and willing temperaments. We are a small breeding farm, raising only 1 or 2 foals per year, which allows us to give them individual attention. The foals are imprinted at birth for lifelong handling ease.

About Judy

From as far back as I can remember, I always wanted a pony for Christmas. My poor, mystified parents finally gave me riding lessons when I was a teenager. They bought me my first horse (Shades O' Velvet) a few years later, and I have yet to grow out of this "phase she is going through". I have ridden and shown hunter/jumper, evented through Preliminary and currently ride dressage through FEI.

The first foal I bred was Beau Velvet (May 19, 1983). Twenty-two years later, he is retired from the show ring, but not before allowing me to earn the scores needed for my USDF Silver Medal (2 scores of at least 60% at 4 th level and Prix St Georges).

I received my first Irish Wolfhound (Lochbay's Kestrel CDX) on March 12, 1987 . For some unknown reason, I had been drawn to the breed. I trained Kessie in Obedience, eventually earning her CD, then CDX. We trained through Utility, but due to a shoulder injury, she had to retire from the show ring. This dog started the love affair with Irish Wolfhounds that continues to this day. I have shown our dogs in both the Obedience and Conformation rings, with titles and championships in both.

In 1999, my husband, Steve, and I bought a small farm and started breeding Trakehner horses and the occasional Irish Wolfhound litter. This was a life long dream of mine, and one that Steve had obviously come to share. Breeding 1 to 2 foals a year allows Steve and I to give them individual attention. I truly enjoy the babies, and look forward to foaling season each year. As they grow, I become even more excited with the prospect of starting each one. I work with them so they can become that “special” horse for someone when they leave Wolftrak Farm.

About Steve

Not growing up around Irish Wolfhounds or horses of any kind, I would never have dreamed in 1989, when Judy and I were married, that 10 years later we would buy a farm to start breeding Irish Wolfhounds and Trakehner horses.

That was the start of this wonderful journey. I am the one that imprints every foal born on Wolftrak Farm. Watching the babies grow and learn is such a rewarding experience. I often watch in awe as Judy works with a young horse that I helped bring into this world. This horse that was once a new born in my lap is learning how to walk, trot, turn and halt under saddle.

The Irish Wolfhound is a breed that stole my heart as Judy and I dated. Soon after we were married, I had to have my "own" wolfhound, and that is how AKC Champion Wildrose Alainn of Tullamore became mine as a little black puppy. A highlight of my dog breeding career was in 2004, when Judy and I finished two of our home bred Irish Wolfhounds, Wolftrak's Accolade and Wolftrak's Quicksilver!

I am the chauffer, groom, hay hauler, fence builder, and am responsible for the million and one other things that it takes to keep Wolftrak Farm running. My doctor asked me what my exercise regimen was, and I explained that running Wolftrak Farm was how I kept in shape.
